Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 3, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how uShot handles information in the uShot macOS app, the uShot Chrome extension, and the scrn.cloud website. uShot is designed to be local-first: screenshots are captured, edited, copied, and saved on your device unless you explicitly choose an online sharing feature.
Summary
- uShot does not sell user data.
- uShot does not use screenshot content or Chrome user data for advertising.
- The public scrn.cloud website may use limited analytics as described below.
- uShot does not collect browsing history.
- uShot does not transmit screenshots unless you choose to share them online.
- uShot does not require an account for the local screenshot workflow.
Information processed locally
uShot may process screenshot images, annotations, selected regions, colors, stroke sizes, font sizes, keyboard shortcuts, and save-folder preferences on your device. This information is used to provide the screenshot and annotation features.
Information processed only on your device is not collected by us unless it is transmitted to us through an explicit online feature or a support request.
macOS app
The macOS app may request Screen Recording permission so it can capture the screen area you select. The app may also save screenshots to a folder you choose and copy screenshots to the system clipboard. These actions happen on your device.
Chrome extension
The Chrome extension captures the visible area of the active tab only after you invoke the extension. The captured image and annotations are used to provide the screenshot editor. The extension may store local preferences such as last-used color, stroke thickness, and font size.
uShot does not collect or sell browsing history, page content, form data, authentication data, cookies, or personal communications. The extension uses access to the active tab only to provide the user-facing screenshot capture feature.
Optional online sharing
uShot offers an optional scrn.cloud sharing feature. If you choose to share a screenshot online by using the cloud upload action, the selected screenshot image and technical metadata needed to host it, such as upload time, file type, file size, generated link identifier, expiry time, and abuse-prevention logs, may be transmitted to and stored by scrn.cloud.
Shared screenshots may be accessible to anyone with the generated link until they expire. uShot Cloud links are temporary and are intended to expire after 24 hours in the first version. Do not share screenshots that contain confidential, sensitive, or private information unless you intend to make that image available through the link.
Support and abuse reports
If you contact us by email, we receive the email address and information you include in your message. If you report an abusive shared link, we may use the reported URL and your message to investigate and respond.
Service providers
The scrn.cloud website is intended to be hosted using infrastructure providers such as Cloudflare. If online sharing is enabled, storage, security, logging, and delivery may be handled by infrastructure providers that process data only to provide and protect the service.
Website analytics
scrn.cloud may use Google Analytics on public website pages to understand aggregate traffic, page usage, device/browser information, and referral sources. Google Analytics is not intentionally added to temporary screenshot viewer pages, and uShot does not use analytics data to sell user data or profile users for advertising.
Chrome Web Store limited use disclosure
uShot uses information obtained from Chrome APIs only to provide or improve its single purpose: capturing, annotating, copying, saving, and optionally sharing screenshots selected by the user. uShot does not use Chrome user data for advertising, profiling, creditworthiness, unrelated purposes, or sale to third parties.
Data retention
Local screenshots and preferences remain on your device until you delete them. Support emails are retained as needed to respond and maintain records. Optional shared screenshots are intended to be temporary and may be automatically deleted after their retention window.
Your choices
- You can avoid online sharing and use uShot locally.
- You can delete locally saved screenshots from your device.
- You can uninstall the macOS app or Chrome extension at any time.
- You can contact us to request help with privacy questions or deletion requests.
Children
uShot is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy as uShot changes. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
